Internal & Experimental Projects

Some ideas need working software before their possibilities and difficulties become clear. Prototypes let us investigate a new service, explore unfamiliar data or test a technical approach before making a larger commitment.

This part of our work includes systems for our own use and experimental projects for clients. ShopSee illustrates how successive prototypes can turn an idea into something concrete enough to examine and develop.

ShopSee Prototype

Simple Matters' ShopSee project explored how people could exchange opinions while shopping on their phones, with activity data that might also support retailer analysis. Anatec developed the prototype analytics back end using Microsoft Azure and SQL Server.

The challenge was to turn imperfect mobile events into dependable analytical information. Events could arrive out of order or contain missing or invalid information. Our processor prepared the data for a structured warehouse, retaining historical detail and making it available for reporting.

Successive prototypes explored the data models, processing and reporting, with testing, retry handling and operational logging built into the work. ShopSee remained experimental; the story shows how Anatec investigated the engineering needed to support a new business idea.
