Caroline Eveleigh
Business Director · MBA, MBCS
Caroline is Anatec’s Business Director and a systems analyst specialising in business applications and effective teamwork. She helps clients turn an opportunity or a problem into a clear understanding of what a system needs to achieve, how it will be used and why it is worth developing.
Her background combines business management, marketing and information systems. She works closely with clients and fellow director Richard Lee to keep business objectives, people’s needs and technical decisions connected throughout a project.
Pain-free requirements analysis
People know their own work, but describing what they need from a new system can be surprisingly difficult. Some requirements are taken for granted; others only become clear when people see an idea taking shape.
Caroline’s focus is on pain-free requirements analysis: asking useful questions, listening carefully and helping people explain what matters. That includes understanding how work gets done today, where the difficulties lie and what could become possible with a different approach.
The aim is a shared understanding that makes sense to everyone involved. Clear descriptions, practical examples and discussion around prototypes help clients and developers explore ideas together. They also bring ambiguities and differing expectations into view while there is still time to resolve them.
A sound business case
A list of requested features is only part of the picture. Caroline helps establish what the proposed system should achieve for the business and how those benefits relate to the work involved.
That means considering the people who will use the system, the information they need and the changes it will make to their working day. A useful improvement might remove repetitive administration, make information easier to understand or help a team provide a better service. The business case gives those decisions a clear purpose.
Her work includes requirements, documentation, testing and client communication. These activities help keep the developing system connected to the original objectives and give people a clear basis for discussing changes.
Business experience and qualifications
Before her work at Anatec, Caroline’s career included advertising and marketing roles with WCRS and The Sunday Times Wine Club. That experience contributes a practical understanding of customers, communication and commercial objectives to her systems analysis work.
Caroline holds an MBA with Merit from the Open University and a Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing. She is also a member of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT (MBCS).
Microsoft qualifications and technical understanding
Caroline’s business perspective is supported by technical knowledge. Understanding the possibilities of software and data helps her discuss requirements with clients and work effectively with Richard as the solution develops.
Microsoft Power BI
Caroline holds the Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate certification (PL-300). This supports her work in understanding how data can be organised, analysed and presented to help people make informed decisions.
For a client, the starting point is the question they need to answer. What information will help them act? How should it be presented? What needs to be understood before a figure can be trusted? Caroline’s combination of business analysis and Power BI knowledge helps connect those questions to the reporting requirement.
Earlier Microsoft qualifications
Caroline’s earlier achievements include Microsoft Certified Professional status and Microsoft exams covering:
- Database development with Microsoft SQL Server 2000.
- Developing and implementing web applications with Microsoft VB.NET and Visual Studio .NET.
These earlier qualifications reflect her grounding in the applications and databases behind business systems, alongside her current Power BI knowledge.
Beyond business systems
Caroline has also been known to confuse a French person brave enough to attempt a conversation with her. Fortunately, making requirements clear is a different matter.
Working with Caroline and Richard
Caroline and Richard are Anatec"s two-person team, based in Reading. Clients work directly with them, with systems delivered in the UK and no subcontracting.
Their business and engineering perspectives inform one another throughout a project. Caroline helps clarify the need and its business context; Richard explores the technical approach. Together with the client, they develop and refine a system that fits the work it needs to support.
