Richard Lee

Technical Director · MSc, CEng, MBCS, CITP

Richard is Anatec’s Technical Director and a Chartered Engineer. He designs and develops business systems, combining software and data engineering with an understanding of how organisations work. His focus is on practical, dependable systems that help clients achieve their business objectives.

From business objectives to a working system

A useful system starts with understanding what the business wants to achieve. Richard works with clients and fellow director Caroline Eveleigh to explore the opportunity, consider the constraints and decide how technology can help.

His contribution spans the design of the system, the software that people use, the data behind it and the connections to other services. Keeping these parts in view helps him make decisions about the whole system: how it will work, how people will use it and how it can adapt as the business changes.

Prototypes are an important part of that work. They make an idea concrete, give people something to discuss and help answer uncertain questions before too much is committed. A prototype might explore a screen, test an integration or establish whether an approach will perform well enough.

Richard stays involved as the system is developed and refined. Clients can discuss a technical question directly with the person designing and building their system, with business and engineering decisions kept closely connected.

Experience that continues to develop

Richard’s experience spans successive generations of Microsoft software, databases and business intelligence. Today his work includes C# and .NET applications, Microsoft Azure, SQL Server and Azure SQL Database, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI and applied AI.

Modern cloud services make it possible to build useful custom systems without developing every component from scratch. Richard’s role includes deciding which services fit the requirement, how they should work together and where custom software will make the difference. Simplicity, maintainability and the intended business benefit guide those choices.

That technical experience sits within Anatec’s long-standing client relationships, including work for BAE Systems, Honeywell and PepsiCo. You can explore the organisations we have worked with on our Clients page, and our current capabilities in Our Services.

Engineering and information systems

Richard holds a first-class degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from the University of Surrey, where he received the IEE prize for his year. He also holds an MSc in Analysis, Design and Management of Information Systems from the London School of Economics.

These two disciplines remain closely connected in his work: engineering a sound technical solution and understanding the people, processes and organisation in which it must operate.

He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), a member of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT (MBCS), and a Chartered IT Professional (CITP).

Microsoft certifications and continuing learning

Richard continues to develop his knowledge through study, practical projects and professional certification. His Microsoft qualifications cover application development, data engineering, analytics and AI fundamentals.

Beyond software

Richard’s interest in learning extends beyond technology: he can also hold a conversation in Portuguese.

Working with Richard and Caroline

Richard and Caroline are Anatec’s two-person team, based in Reading. They work directly with clients, delivering systems in the UK without subcontracting. Caroline’s business analysis and communication skills complement Richard’s engineering work throughout a project.
